Monsters and Misfits
Yes, this is supposed to be a children's book, yes it is based off of one of the most terrifying science fiction creatures to ever exist. But who says you can't take something so terrifying, revolting, and full on nightmarish, and turn it into a cute, cuddly, and plush looking character; for a children's book of all things. Alien Covenant is the most recent addition to the Alien and Prometheus Film series, directed by Ridley Scott features various crews dealing with different and seemingly worsening creatures in every film. I've become fond of the movies themselves and love the overall nightmare and brutal look of the alien creature, so why not turn it into a adorable children's book?
throughout the entire alien series, the idea and layout of the movies all are relatively the same, and yet, equally as scary as the last one. They start off with a crew in Kryo-Sleep on a spaceship in deep space, traveling to either a resource station or to a planet to see if it may be habitable for the future generations of earth. Once the crews find their so called “new home”, they go down to explore the area. At first all usually seems normal, or as normal as another planet can be. Walking around they find signs of life that could be suitable for the human race so they will continue to figure out more about said planet. One or two of the crew members typically stumble across these egg looking “things”. Now, I don't know about you, but if I saw some weird looking thing I've never seen before, I wouldn't go and stick my face right up next to it, I would probably walk the other way. Unfortunately, some crew member does just did that and essentially, starts the downfall of the crew. After which, all chaos ensues and most of the crew gets killed, except for one lone survivor. That's how alien works, that is the fear of the unknown in deep space.
What we fear can, unfortunately, be anything and everything we want it to be. Personally my fear is not being good enough for other people. In alien, especially the original one, the fear expressed throughout the entire film was the fear of the unknown. Which in The United States, at the time of the movie being released, was the fear of communism and the spread of communism itself. The alien in the movie is supposed to be the unknown, the fear of different people, such as the red scare is a big cultural theme in this movie, it was developed around the red scared and used as motivation in the belief of the whole way to get rid of communism is to go to the source and destroy it. In the film they invade the aliens home in every film and don't intend to kill the alien at the start, but it develops to a theme and a goal to destroy the alien. In real life during the Cold War, America would go to country with the goal to help them after the Second World War, but would end up just keeping the country from communist soviet rule instead.
Since I will be using different movies of the series. I'll incorporate different things from each movie into my book I'll be creating.
